This book is a remake of old documents of Taira Shinken. He was one of the most important Okinawa Kobudo masters and wrote a lot of papers about Kobudo, especially Bo Jutsu Katas. This book " Encyclopedia of Okinawa weapons" has only a small but important number of different Katas. It is very interesting to see the change of these Katas in Reviews: Unlike the yuta who possesses supernatural powers, the sanjinso makes his prognosis from the lunar almanac, I Ching, and other books on Chinese occult lore. The sanjinso is consulted when selecting auspicious days for engagements, marriages, funerals, buying and selling houses, moving, and traveling.

In the book, Grann quotes Louis F. Burns, the eminent Osage historian, as saying, “I don't know of a single Osage family which didn't lose at least one family member." “Killers of the Flower Moon” is a fascinating and compelling read and a sad piece of Oklahoma history.   Okinawa has strong historical links to Chinese culture, and many traditions were brought to the island chain. One such import is Shisa (シーサー) which are guardian lions that protect houses and entrances from evil spirits.

Playing a lesser role than the kaminchu and yuta in Okinawan shamanism, the sanjinso is a fortune teller or diviner who determines personal fortunes.

Men have exclusively held this profession. Unlike the yuta who possesses supernatural powers, the sanjinso makes his prognosis from the lunar almanac, I Ching, and other books on Chinese occult lore. For at least years prior to annexation by Japan in the s, the island archipelago was the proud Ryukyu Kingdom, a nation that kept the peace through a tricky but sound strategy: trade, diplomacy, and by paying tribute to first the rulers of China and later Japan as well.

Okinawa has many interesting stories to tell. Travelling around the island you will find war memorials and spots of cultural and religious importance, where the rich history of the Ryukyu kingdom and the happenings of World War II are told.
